ADA NSW has been alerted to phishing emails sent from compromised dental practice accounts. These messages may appear legitimate and request you to review documents or log in.
The emails are often persuasive, as they can use the real business name, email address, and letterhead of known organisations.
If the web link is clicked, it could also trigger the installation of remote access software which can allow unauthorised access to your computer and systems.
Key actions:
Please take the following important precautions immediately:
- Do not click links or download attachments from unexpected emails
- Do not enter login details via email links
- Delete suspicious messages immediately
- Enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) where possible.
Secure your systems:
Ensure your antivirus and endpoint protection software are up-to-date. Confirm also that remote access tools are only installed where necessary and properly secured.
This could include the following additional security measures:
- Creating multi-factor authentication (MFA) on email and key systems
- Creating strong, unique passwords for all accounts
- Follow privacy and reporting obligations.
These cybersecurity attacks are becoming increasingly sophisticated. If you believe your account may be compromised, reset your password and contact your IT provider immediately.
