What’s New in Therapeutic Guidelines – Oral & Dental 4th Edition?
In this 3-hour presentation, attendees will be updated on the new content of the 4th edition of Therapeutic Guidelines – Oral and Dental including updated rules and regulations governing access, availability, administration, prescribing and supply of medicines, competency assessment and real time prescription monitoring.
Topics include
- The new recommendations for antibiotic prophylaxis and treatment
- Appropriate use of pain-relieving medicines
- The updated approach to anxiety management, in adults, children and the elderly.
- Management dental patients with certain medical diagnoses, special needs and cognitive impairment.
- The update on local anesthetic, sedation, and medical emergency procedures.
- Overview on sedation techniques and regulatory requirements

- Know the new recommendation for antibiotic prophylaxis and treatment for dental indications, including endocarditis prophylaxis
- Identify the medicines recommended for acute pain management in dentistry, their risk and benefits and how they are most safely prescribed.

Associate Professor Geraldine Moses AM
Geraldine Moses is Doctor of Clinical pharmacy who has worked with the dental profession since the 1990’s. She was the sole provider of the ADA’s national drug information service called ‘Pharma-Advice’ until mid-2024. Dr Moses is now working with a group of dental experts providing an online service called “The Dental Advice Network”. She also continues to part-time at Mater Public Hospital in South Brisbane and consults privately at a multidisciplinary dental practice in Brisbane.
Geraldine holds the position of Adjunct Associate Professor in the Schools of Pharmacy at UQ, QUT and the Dental school at UWA. She has published over 30 peer- reviewed journal articles and with dental academic colleagues, recently published a textbook through Cambridge University Press entitled The Handbook of Dental Therapeutics. She has also been a member of the expert writing group for Therapeutic Guidelines – Oral and Dental Both 3rd and 4th edition. In 2019, Geraldine was made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for her service to healthcare as a pharmacist.

Dr Steve Parker
Dr Steven Parker completed his Dental degree (with honours) at the University of Queensland in 1985. He has since completed postgraduate diplomas in both oral surgery (Otago University 1997) and sedation and pain control (University of Sydney 2000). He has also completed financial planning and legal qualifications. After completing fifteen years in the Defence Forces, Steven now operates a referral based oral surgery practice in North West Sydney where he provides treatment under General Anaesthesia, Intra-venous sedation, Inhalation sedation and Local Anaesthesia. He also provides IV sedation services to Dental Practices for nervous and phobic patients.
Steven has been involved in post-graduate training and continuing education for over twenty years and has lectured widely throughout Australia and overseas. He also gives practical courses on Advanced Local Anaesthesia and Pain Control in the Dental Office and Everyday Oral Surgery for General Practitioners.
Dr Parker is a director on the Board of Lakeview Private Hospital and is the Oral Surgery/Dental representative on the Medical Advisory Committee of that hospital. His is also a director on the boards of ADA NSW and ADA Federal and Filling The Gap. He is also a member of many committees including ADA Dental Therapeutics Committee and the Dental Board’s Conscious Sedation Advisory Panel.
