Temporomandibular Disorders: A Multi-Disciplinary Problem

Temporomandibular disorders (TMDs), are the second most common musculoskeletal condition, affecting 5-12% of the population, and their multifactorial biopsychosocial nature means no single treatment modality has demonstrated clear superiority. To improve access to coordinated care, we established a multidisciplinary TMD clinic in Newcastle, bringing together oral and maxillofacial surgery, orofacial pain, and physiotherapy to provide comprehensive assessment, patient education, and evidence-based management strategies.

Course Topics

  • Insights into the diagnosis and management of TMD from a surgical, orofacial pain and physiotherapy perspective.
