Course Outline

Are you a new graduate dentist looking for CPD that will teach you the practical skills you need to feel confident in everyday general practice? Simplified Predictable and Aesthetic Composite Restorations is designed to build on your existing skills and create a solid foundation for your future endeavours.

This program provides a structured and clinically oriented approach to direct composite restorations, delivered over two full days of learning. It focuses on techniques that are simplified and predictable to achieve aesthetic, functional, and durable composite restorations through a streamlined and methodical approach.

With the increasing demand for conservative and aesthetic outcomes, the course is designed to equip dental professionals with the skills and knowledge necessary to perform both anterior and posterior composite restorations with confidence and efficiency. Both Class II and Class IV restorations will be completed in the hands-on component and the concepts will have broad applications in clinical practice

Participants will explore essential topics including:

  • Bonding Systems: A detailed review of contemporary adhesive systems, including total-etch, self-etch, and universal adhesives. The session will address indications, advantages, limitations, and clinical protocols to maximize bond strength and minimize sensitivity.
  • Material Selection: Guidance on choosing the appropriate composite materials for anterior and posterior restorations, including considerations of viscosity, translucency, mechanical properties, bioactivity and aesthetic requirements.
  • Rubber Dam Isolation: Protocols and tips for effective moisture control, including rubber dam application, use of adjuncts and alternative isolation techniques. Emphasis will be placed on creating an optimal working environment to enhance adhesion and clinical outcomes.
  • Cavity design: Principles of minimally invasive cavity preparation tailored for adhesive dentistry. Participants will learn how to optimize caries removal and cavity form for both function and aesthetics, while preserving tooth structure.
  • Matrixing and troubleshooting: Techniques for achieving proper contact, contour, and emergence profiles using sectional matrices, bands, and wedges. Troubleshooting tips will be provided for common issues such as open contacts, overhangs, deep margins and marginal gaps.
  • Composite placement and techniques: Step-by-step protocols for incremental layering, shade stratification, and anatomical shaping. Methods to reduce voids, improve adaptation, and enhance final aesthetics.

The course emphasises the integration of evidence-based protocols into everyday clinical practice, with a strong focus on reproducibility and long-term success. Through detailed theoretical instruction, case photographs and hands-on demonstration, clinicians will learn how to streamline their restorative workflow without compromising quality.

For Drs Amy and Selena, the goal is that this program will elevate the attendees’ clinical outcomes while fostering greater confidence and satisfaction in restorative procedures.
