Surgical Management and Techniques for Predictable Soft Tissue Outcomes


This course is divided into three (3) modules addressing the most common applications of aesthetic soft tissue periodontal surgery. Didactic instruction and hands on demonstrations will supplement live surgeries. 
 
This is a hands-on course that will appeal to any practitioner interested in improving their soft tissue handling skills. Tuition will be given by Periodontists experienced in Periodontal surgical techniques.

Module 1: Friday 3 February 2023

Fundamentals of Periodontal Microsurgery

This is an introduction to the concept of Periodontal microsurgery and the reasons for the microsurgical approach and wound healing. Microsurgery instruments and incision design will be discussed. This will be reinforced with a hands-on exercise on pigs jaws as well as a live patient surgery.


Module 2: Friday 5 May 2023

Soft Tissue Procedures for Crown Lengthening and Recession Defects

This module will cover the indications and limitations of crown lengthening procedures. The theory behind surgical crown lengthening will be reinforced with hands-on exercises and live patient surgery. Treatment of gingival recession remains a technique sensitive procedure. The diagnosis of the different types of recession as well as the limitations of treatment with different grafting materials will be covered and reinforced with a live patient surgery.


Module 3: Friday 4 August 2023

Surgical Techniques for Implants in the Aesthetic Zone

As implant placement is becoming more popular so too are the expectations of our patients particularly in the aesthetic zone. Soft tissue complications often affect the treatment outcome. This module will address the prevention of complications and how to achieve the maximum benefit from soft tissue augmentation procedures when implants are considered.

  • To develop an understanding of the factors important in successful microsurgical technique.
  • To learn and apply the correct surgical procedure for different indications.
  • To understand the use of different surgical instruments and methods. 
  • To better evaluate prevent and manage potential surgical complications.

The course will run over three (3) modules over three different Fridays.
