The 2026 RB Cup competition between the dental students of The University of Sydney and Charles Sturt University, was held in early-May. This was the 16th RB Cup competition (a name given to the Cup by the two students who inaugurated this competition at the end of 2009).
For the first time, competition took place in the Parramatta region (rather than central Sydney, where suitable venues are often hard to obtain).
Due to the sponsorship kindly provided by ADA NSW (Claire Schifter, Wendy Le), Guild (Laura Hope), A-dec (Paul Riddel) and Avant Dental lab (Ian Feigen, Anthony Locastro), the students were well supported for newly designed, coloured, labelled jerseys (USyd, Blue; CSU, Red), hiring of facilities, lunch, support of referees and umpires, and accommodation for some of the visiting CSU students.
The morning activities were at Rydalmere Park, where facilities were good and the weather very favourable. In a high-spirited game, The University of Sydney won the men’s soccer (5-1); CSU won the women’s soccer (5-2).
After lunch, activities moved indoors to a very crowded Camellia Indoor Sports centre.
The University of Sydney students dominated the afternoon games – Men’s Basketball (40-25), Women’s Netball (24-8), Mixed Volleyball (2 games to nil).
The assembled “crowd” of competing and supporting students gave strong support to their respective teams. During the day, many excellent “action” photographs (a small selection shown here) were taken by Dr Rabeeh Bahrampourian, who has taught at both dental schools.
At the closing ceremony, the two student presidents – Chris Kadamani (USyd) and Yousif Alsaoor (CSU) – spoke briefly. MVP awards were presented to Elissa Lieu (USyd) and Abrie Girgis (CSU).
The RB Cup for 2026 was very deservedly presented to The University of Sydney. This was quite significant – only the third time The University of Sydney students have been successful.
All ADA NSW members would be most welcome to attend next year’s RB Cup event (2027) – to be held in Orange, usually in early May.  Â
Come and support future members of our profession — and enjoy Orange and surrounds in Autumn !
