Course Overview
This course will provide participants with comprehensive knowledge about radiation safety, the legal requirements for owning and operating x-ray equipment in NSW, and best practices for maintaining a safe working environment.Â
The course will be divided into modules, each consisting of a video lesson and a quick assessment to reinforce learning, with practice questions throughout to assess the participants’ understanding.

Learning Objectives
- Describe the nature of ionising radiation, its applications in dentistry, and the evolution of dental radiographic technology.
- Apply radiation protection principles, including ALARA, dose limits, and personal monitoring requirements.
- Explain the NSW legal and regulatory requirements for radiation safety in dentistry, including key legislation, standards, and the consequences of non-compliance.
- Identify and manage licensing and registration requirements for dental x-ray equipment and radiation users, including intraoral, OPG, and CBCT systems.
- Assess radiation risks in the dental environment and implement appropriate control measures, including shielding, signage, and safe clinical practices.
- Maintain compliance with equipment testing, certification, quality assurance, and decommissioning requirements to support safe and lawful dental radiography.
Participants must achieve 100% in the final quiz and respond to the evaluation form before the course is considered complete and the CPD certificate is released.
