Dr Sophie Halpin appointed as new ADA NSW councillor

28 April 2021

Dr Halpin completed her Bachelor of Dental Surgery at the University of Adelaide in 2012. She is always learning and striving to be the best dentist she can be and is currently completing the Membership of the Royal Australian College of Dental Surgeons. Dr Halpin is compassionate and thrives on interacting with her patients.

She is currently serving as the Chairperson of the ADA NSW Western Division Branch, which gives her the chance to experience more of what her cherished profession has to offer. She hopes to take on more leadership roles in the future.

“I decided to apply for ADA NSW Council because I've always been a proud member of ADA NSW and I place significant value in the role ADA NSW serves,” she said. “The events of 2020 really drove home the importance of our professional association.”

“Through the height of the COVID-19 crisis in Australia, ADA NSW was to my mind, the strongest, clearest, most direct line of communication we had as dentists, quickly and efficiently disseminating vital information, working with us to adapt to changing circumstances, and advocating on our behalf.

“This clarified my choice – ADA NSW relies on members to fill roles within the organisation and I wanted to be involved because I'm interested, passionate and want to ensure that the voices of dentists in rural and regional Western NSW are heard. I aim to work hard and do my absolute best in my new role which I am absolutely thrilled to have.”

Originally from Nyngan, she moved with her family to Dubbo as a small child and has lived there ever since. She loves Dubbo, is passionate about the community and intends to stay for a long time. Dr Halpin and her husband Ben welcomed their beautiful son Henry into the world in 2020. In her spare time, Sophie loves walking her cute little Cavoodle along the banks of the Macquarie River with her family, gardening, reading, going to the gym and spending time with friends.

We extend our warmest thanks to outgoing ADA NSW councillor Dr Sabrina Manickam for her long-standing support and much valued contribution in a number of significant roles with ADA NSW since 2004, including as President in 2015-2017.
