Chair of the National Dental Foundation wins 2016 NSW Volunteer of the Year

ADA NSW would like to congratulate Dr David Digges, Chair of the National Dental Foundation (NDF) for winning the 2016 NSW Volunteer of the Year award.
The Centre for Volunteering – the peak organisation for volunteering – presented Dr Digges with the prestigious award at a gala ceremony in Sydney today.
‘It is an amazing achievement for a very dedicated dentist who has been a committed volunteer for more than ten years,’ ADA NSW President, Dr Sabrina Manickam said. ‘Not only has David committed his and his staff’s time to helping those in need but through the creation of the NDF, he has been able to harness the skills and services of nearly 150 dentists and their teams to provide pro bono dental treatment to those most in need.’
‘Dr Digges and the wonderful volunteers of the NDF have been able to change the lives of thousands of people by repairing broken and decayed teeth, ending pain and suffering and improving quality of life. He has gifted so many people a new smile and in doing so has been able to restore their dignity and confidence,’ Dr Manickam said.
Dr David Digges is a dedicated dentist with a long history of volunteering. He has volunteered overseas in places like East Timor, contributing his professional dentistry skills in order to help developing communities. He co-founded The National Dental Foundation in 2006 in partnership with Mervin Saultry, MD of Dental Innovations.
A registered charity and public benevolent institution, the NDF’s purpose is to engage dental practices to volunteer and provide pro bono dental treatment to those in need who are referred by registered charities. During the 2015-6 financial year, 260 NDF Dental Rescue Days were held across Australia providing more than $600,000 worth of treatment pro bono.
ADA NSW provides administrative support to the NDF and also actively encourages our members to support the NDF by offering their services. To volunteer with the NDF contact Wendy Chin on 8436 9900 or visit
ADA NSW is the peak professional association for dentists and dental students in NSW and the ACT with 4,400 members representing 70% of dentists. ADA NSW has been supporting dentists and promoting good oral health in the community since 1929.
