Frequently Asked Questions

Can I visit the dentist?

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic restrictions on daily practices in Australia, dental clinics will continue to screen patients before appointments. The good news is that from Friday 8th May routine dental appointments, including check ups and treatment, can now be provided for all people who are not COVID-19 positive or are not suspected of being COVID-19 positive. With these changes, many dental practices will re-open but some will remain closed. Call your dentist to check if they are open or to find a dentist near you, search our Dental Directory

What treatment can be done?

All routine dental treatment can now be carried out on patients who are not COVID-19 positive or suspected of being COVID-19 positive. Dental clinics have appropriate measures in place to ensure that patients and dental staff are protected. This relies on patients being pre-screened to identify those at risk of having active COVID-19 infection. For those who are COVID-19 positive or suspected, it is necessary to delay all routine dental treatment until the infection has passed. COVID-19 positive or suspected patients who have urgent or emergency dental needs should call their dentist to discuss their options.

What should I do if I have dental pain?

Please contact your regular dentist who will provide help where possible. If they are closed, you can search our Dental Directory to find a dentist near you.

What if I am sick or sharing a household with someone who is quarantined?

It is important that you do not visit the dentist for treatment if you have been in contact with someone diagnosed with COIVD-19 or if you are experiencing symptoms including cough, shortness of breath, fever, or sore throat.

Can I bring someone with me?

We ask you to please attend for treatment alone, unless accompanying a child or person who requires assistance.

How can I be sure it is safe?

Please be assured if you are attending for treatment that all dental practices in NSW are required to implement thorough infection control measures as described by the Australian Dental Association to keep all members of the community safe. The safety and wellbeing of patients, the dental team and the general community is our highest priority during this unprecedented situation.
