I WAS LOST & I WAS FOUND
A tale about ectopic canines and supernumerary teeth
Supernumerary teeth, missing teeth and ectopic maxillary canines are sometimes seen in children and adolescents during routine dental examinations. Appropriate screening and diagnostic imaging are indicated to detect and confirm these clinical findings. These abnormalities can create significant orthodontic and aesthetic challenges which can negatively impact self-esteem and confidence in these individuals. Early detection and timely intervention are crucial for successful clinical management and a good outcome. General dental practitioners, Paediatric dentists, Oral surgeons and Orthodontists often work together to manage these cases. This interdisciplinary approach and collaborative effort ensure that the individual receives comprehensive and specialised care to address the specific challenges posed by these abnormalities considering their age, growth stage and overall health. This will assist in restoring oral function, improve aesthetics and enhance the indivdual’s overall dental health and quality of life.
