was instrumental in the formation of the Dental Therapeutics Committee which has, amongst other duties, been responsible for the writing of both editions of Therapeutic Guidelines: Oral and Dental. He represents the view of the GP dentist on the writing group.

John was president of the ADA Victoria branch in 1997/8 and federal ADA President in 2008/9. He is an Honorary Life Member of both organizations. John now sits on the Board of the Melbourne dental clinic and was granted the title Associate professor by Melbourne University
