Dr Jerry Brown DMD, CDE is an alumnus of Tufts University School of Dental Medicine and practiced clinical dentistry in Massachusetts and Florida. After retiring from clinical practice Dr. Brown received 2000 hours of intense training to become the first, and only dentist in the country to achieve Board Certification as a Diabetes Educator, and he practices in that capacity at the University of South Florida’s Department of Internal Medicine. He created a curriculum for Group Diabetes sessions at the University, and has articles published in several endocrine journals. Recognizing the special oral, and medical health considerations of his dental patients with diabetes Dr. Brown focused on how to provide the best care for this segment of his patient population. He serves on the Advocacy Committee of the American Diabetes Association and has served on the Community Leadership Board for that organization, as well. Dr. Brown is also a consultant for the Polk County School Board and travels across the United States delivering presentations on Diabetes and Oral Health. Recently, he was chosen to represent the AGD as part of the Diabetes Task Force, which is a collaborative effort with physicians, and diabetes educators in order to tackle the public health crisis of Diabetes as an integrated team of healthcare professionals.
