Doctors' Health Advisory Service

Dental practitioners have a duty of care towards their patients and a responsibility to administer appropriate treatment. The Doctors' Health Advisory Service (DHAS) aims to ensure dentists and health professionals don't just administer help, but receive help when they need it.

ADA NSW recommends the DHAS as an independent, free and confidential service designed to support health professionals stretched by the demands, pressure and standards of their roles. The service offers a seven-day helpline which puts practitioners, their families, staff and colleagues in touch with experienced medical practitioners and social workers offering free and confidential advice.

The DHAS receives and assists a range of calls spanning work-related stress and burnout, alcohol misuse and substance addiction, clinical competence, financial difficulties, legal and ethical issues, relationship issues, physical impairment and mental health conditions. Their aim is to ensure that every doctor, dentist, veterinarian or student in these professions has ready access to health care. If you or someone you know is experiencing symptoms, contact the DHAS.
