The Future of Endodontics

In the past ten years, endodontics has evolved tremendously and its applications have immensely improved the quality of dental treatment and ultimately, retention of natural dentition. The ADA NSW CPD and ASE NSW are pleased to welcome you to a day of lectures to discuss the current concepts and techniques as well as future developments in endodontics. These developments may change the way you think and perform endodontics in future.

This unique program covers a wide range of topics from diagnosis to case selection, to the management of non-odontogenic pain, to vital pulp therapy and regenerative techniques, to the management of complex canal anatomy and recent advances in irrigant agitation systems. No matter what the background of the participant is, they will take away many clinical tips that will change the way they practice endodontics.

Topics include

  • Management of teeth with vital or necrotic pulps with open apices.

  • Understanding stem cells and regenerative techniques - when to use them and when not to use them.

  • Diagnosis and importance of case selection.

  • Differentiating non-odontogenic from odontogenic pain.

  • Understanding the complex root canal anatomy and discussion of recent advances in enhancing the delivery of irrigants to improve disinfection.

Learning Objectives

After attending the day course, the attendees will be able to:

  • State factors affecting treatment planning for teeth with pathological conditions.

  • Enumerate the treatment options for teeth with vital pulps and open apices.

  • Discuss the treatment options for teeth with necrotic pulps and open apices.

  • Discuss outcomes of treatment procedures for teeth with vital and necrotic pulp with open apices.

  • Understand the role and various applications of stem cells in endodontics and orofacial pain.

  • Describe the various diagnostic tests and interpret the information they provide to assist accurate diagnosis.

  • Describe which diagnostic test is the most appropriate for each of the various situations when pulpal and periapical conditions present for diagnosis.

  • Describe and perform simple methods to improve case selection and treatment outcomes.

  • Understand and differentiate odontogenic from non-odontogenic pain.

  • Identify the physical challenges to effective irrigant delivery in root canal systems.

  • Discuss the different techniques available for irrigation enhancement and explain how these techniques can improve disinfection of complex root canal anatomy.
