ADX Program

Dentofacial orthopaedics has always been an integral part of orthodontic treatment The upper and lower arches not only influence the lower third of the face but when the whole maxillary bone is considered the entire lower two thirds of the face below the eyes are now involved.

In recent years the incorporation of TADs and skeletal anchorage has moved orthopaedic treatment in orthodontics to a new level increasing the scope of what can be achieved through the manipulation of jaw growth especially the maxilla. Much more significant changes to the midface and the upper airway are now possible with appliances that do not rely on teeth for anchorage. This reduces side effects on the teeth and makes the effects on the jaw growth more effective. New possibilities have now opened for the management of maxillary deficiency, upper airway obstruction and childhood sleep apnea.

Furthermore the technology has also transformed the way adult orthodontics treatment is approached with many cases that were only treatable through orthognathic surgery now being managed with orthodontics.
The lecture will examine closely the possibilities now available in the treatment of severe midface deficiency and transverse maxillary problems as well as the applications for TADs in adult orthodontic treatment.
